A tale of two masters

To celebrate the 15th year of Marc Jacobs at the creative helm of Louis Vuitton, LVMH planned an exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. NR2154 was asked to design the exhibition branding concept and an accompanying book to be published by Rizzoli.

The book went on to become one of Rizzoli’s best selling hardcovers and is now in its 5th edition. A special trade version available only at Louis Vuitton stores sold out and is now regarded as a collector’s item.

Identity

Inspired by the life and work of Mr. Jacobs and Mr. Vuitton, two fashion visionaries whose lives echoed similar themes 100 years apart, we created a narrative that compared and contrasted their lives. A distinct custom typeface was designed to represent each, along with a third, combined style that speaks to their similarities and differences. This design was extended to both the book and the exhibition.
